  1. Enable USB Debugging and OEM Unlock on your smartphone in the following ways: Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging. If you can’t see the developer options in Settings, enable it by following this path: Settings > About Phone (tap on the Build Number for 5-7 times to enable it). 
  2. Now go to installation directory open ADB folder and open the command window thereby pressing and hold the ‘shift’ key and right-clicked anywhere in that folder. 
  3. Now connect your Moto G5 Plus to your PC via USB cable and enter into the fastboot mode. To enter the fastboot mode of Moto G5 Plus, type the below command in command prompt "adb reboot bootloader"
  4. You are in Fastboot mode, now to check your connection by entering below command in command prompt. It will return your device serial number means your device properly connected. Check your driver if the above command is not responding "fastboot devices" 
  5. In the command window, type the following command "fastboot oem get_unlock_data" 
  6. the above command will return a string. Now copy the code in notepad and delete all the blank space so that you will get a single line string. 
  7. Now head over to the Motorola’s unlock the boot loader site and create a free account or Sign in Google+.
  8. Now Paste the above String (Unlock Code) in the bottom of the Moto site (step 6) and click on Can my device be unlocked? You also need to accept terms and condition on this page by clicking I Accept. 
  9. Now you will receive unlock key via email. Just copy the Unlock Code from mail.
  10. Now copy the Unlock Key and execute the following command "fastboot oem unlock UNLOCK_KEY"

How to Install TWRP Recovery and Root Moto G5 Plus

Install TWRP on Moto G5 Plus

  1. Before you are in fastboot mode. Type this command and hit enter, just make sure recovery.img file is in the ADB FASTBOOT folder. "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" 
  2. With above command, you installed the custom recovery on Moto G5 Plus.
  3. Now reboot your device or boot into recovery mode with hardware button and follow below guide.

  1. To Root Moto G5 Plus, first, download the Magisk v11.6.zip file and no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip files from above.
  2. Boot your device into TWRP Recovery mode.
  3. Now in the TWRP, tap “Never show this screen on boot again”, and Swipe allows modification.
  4. Now Go to “Wipe” section and tap “Format Data”, and type “yes”
  5. Reboot TWRP into Recovery mode and copy Magisk v11.6.zip file and no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip files in your phone.
  6. Now navigate to Install Zip and select ‘no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip’ and flash it.
  7. Now reboot your device and when the device boots up again reboot into TWRP.
  8. Flash Magisk zip file, wipe cache and Dalvik cache and reboot.
  9. When the Phone starts, go to Magisk Manager App.
  10. Done! You root Moto G5 Plus and install a custom recovery on Moto G5 Plus successfully.

  9. On the next page, enter the OEM Unlock data string in Option 6 and click on “Can my device be unlocked” button. 
  10. If you Moto Z Play can be unlocked, you will be able to see the “Request Unlock Key” button. Click on it to get the Unlock key. 
  11. Now go and check your email for the Unlock key. Once you get it, copy and paste the unlock key in a text document.
  12. Next, go to Minimal ADB and Fastboot window and enter the following command: "fastboot oem unlock your-unlock-key"
  13. Replace “your-unlock-key” with the key from your email. 
  14. That’s it. Now you have successfully unlocked bootloader on Motorola Moto Z Play. For confirmation, reboot your device into the bootloader mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down > Home > Power Buttons.
